On Saturday evening, July 18th, it was reported by a concerned citizen that all members of the public entering any drinking establishment in South Street, Chichester, West Sussex UK, had to consent to being tested for drugs by Sussex Police. The test involved a swab being drawn across the palm of one's hand. The swabs were then tested using a mobile machine set up nearby, to determine whether any of those tested had handled illegal substances.
These extreme methods are an indication of the sad times we are living in, and demonstrate the Big Brother attitude the authorities have toward the general public.
Chichester has a large student community and boasts a beautiful Cathedral and clock tower, and is known for its buskers and street performers which bring a warm atmosphere to the town all year round. What a shame it is that those appointed to protect us feel it necessary to resort to such police state tactics. Do we no longer live in a free country?
