Aspartame: Sweet Poison

The common alternative to sugar known as Aspartame or E951 (trade names Nutrasweet, Equal, Spoonful, Equal Measure) originated from research at the international pharmaceutical company, G.D. Searle in 1964. The purpose of the research was to find a treatment for stomach ulcers. The search was on for a drug that would slow the production of the hormone "gastrin" - which stimulates secretion of gastric juices. In 1965 James Schlatter, a researcher at G.D. Searle discovered by accident that the potential treatment had an intensely sweet taste.

Aspartame is 50% phenylalanine, which is an essential amino acid that occurs naturally in foods such as meat, eggs, milk and bananas. The human body is incapable of creating phenylalanine so it must be obtained from what we eat, in balance with other amino acids and nutrients. As an isolated substance, phenylalanine is a neurotoxin, capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier. If ingested in large enough quantities, to say it can be seriously detrimental to health is an understatement.

Phenylalanine can cause irreversible brain damage and death, especially when used in high quantities or during pregnancy. Phenylalanine contributes to emotional and behavioral disorders such as ADD/ADHD. Is it any wonder there's an ADHD pandemic when there are so many products on the market which contain Aspartame? See links below.

Aspartame is 10% methanol, a poisonous and flammable alcohol. It is used in the production of the known carcinogen formaldehyde, which is a disinfectant and preservative used to embalm the dead. Methanol is also an ingredient in paint stripper, gasoline additives and carburetor cleaners for car engines among other things. This poison can be inhaled from vapors, absorbed through the skin, as well as ingested. It is highly toxic and cumulative. Consumption of even a small amount can result in blindness.

Aspartame is 40% aspartic acid, a non-essential amino acid which if not present in the food we eat, is created by the body. If too high a dose of aspartic acid is consumed, it becomes a destructive substance known as an excitotoxin which, like phenylalanine, is also able to cross the blood-brain barrier, leading to over-stimulation of brain and nerve cells which ultimately results in brain cell death.

On a lighter note, Aspartame, the slimmers' alternative to sugar encourages weight gain.
